The Opportunity:
During the interview process with Toast in 2022, I was challenged to identify an unmet opportunity within the restaurant experience and design a solution that addressed it. Rather than improving an existing feature, I focused on reducing friction between ordering and pickup for both customers and restaurant staff.
I designed 2Buns, a conceptual product experience that connected self-service kiosks, mobile ordering, and in-store pickup into a single, seamless workflow.
Customers could either place their order directly at a kiosk or check in after ordering remotely. Once they arrived, a simple digital check-in let restaurant staff know they were ready to receive their meal, reducing uncertainty around customer arrival while helping shorten pickup wait times. Kiosk users also benefited from a faster, more streamlined ordering experience that minimized time spent waiting in line.
The project explored how small improvements to the service journey could create a smoother experience for both customers and employees, demonstrating the value of designing beyond individual screens and considering the complete end-to-end workflow.
This project was completed as part of the interview process for Toast and is presented as a conceptual product design exercise.
